Pledges to Sell on the Market Instead of Transferring to Child
Property to Be Listed for Sale in the Real Estate Market
On October 27, Lee Chanjin, Governor of the Financial Supervisory Service, apologized for his remarks about transferring a house to his child, stating, "It was highly inappropriate, and I sincerely apologize."
During the National Assembly’s Political Affairs Committee audit that afternoon, Assemblyman Kang Min-guk of the People Power Party pointed out that the Governor’s comments had caused significant disappointment and despair among people in their 20s and couples in their 30s and 40s who dream of owning a home. In response, Governor Lee said, "Such remarks are highly inappropriate at a time when many citizens are suffering," adding, "I sincerely apologize."
Previously, Governor Lee had stated that although his family resides in the house, he would dispose of one property and transfer it to his child, considering that such ownership does not meet public expectations.
Governor Lee explained, "I am in the process of closing my law office, so I have been using the house for various purposes, such as storing materials from my previous work." He added, "If I dispose of one house, the space will become cramped and it will be difficult, but considering my status as a public official, I will proceed with the sale." He emphasized, "I will not donate or transfer the property to my child, but will dispose of it."
