Department of Dental Hygiene at Shinhan University College of Health Sciences Achieves Eight Awards
Seven Years of Continuous Academic Achievement from 2019 to 2025
Third-year students from the Department of Dental Hygiene at Shinhan University College of Health Sciences achieved remarkable success at the '2025 Korean Dental Hygiene Science Society (President Mi-Sook Yoon: Department of Dental Hygiene, Shinhan University) Comprehensive Academic Conference Student Academic Poster Contest,' winning a total of eight awards as the result of over a year of research and effort: one Gold Prize, one Silver Prize, two Bronze Prizes, and four Encouragement Prizes.

The Department of Dental Hygiene at Shinhan University has consistently participated in this competition since 2019. Over the past seven years, the department has demonstrated both its research capabilities and students' academic achievements through ongoing academic activities and a robust research guidance system. In particular, the department received high praise for selecting topics that reflect the latest oral health issues, standing out even amid competition from other universities.
Jung Chaeun, a third-year student who delivered an oral presentation after her team won the Gold Prize at the 2025 Korean Dental Hygiene Science Society Comprehensive Academic Conference Student Academic Poster Contest held at the Gwanggyo Dentium Knowledge Industry Center on the 25th, under the theme 'Dental Hygiene Education and Clinical Application Based on Generative AI,' shared, "It is a great honor for our team to receive the Gold Prize. This achievement is the result of Professor Cho Hana's dedicated guidance whenever we encountered difficulties during the research process, as well as the strong collaboration of our team members who worked tirelessly, even overnight. We are deeply gratified that our efforts have been academically recognized, and we will continue to strive with a sense of mission to become dental hygienists who always do our best."
The Gold Prize was awarded to the team of Kim Minseo, Na Yunji, Seo Suhyeon, An Chaebin, Jung Chaeun, and Han Suyeon for their research on 'The Effect of Dental Hygienists' Perception and Intention to Use Artificial Intelligence on Work Engagement.' The Silver Prize went to a study titled 'The Effect of Dental Hygienists' Verbal and Non-Verbal Communication on Social Rapport with Patients,' with winners Go Junbeom, Kim Minwoo, Min Hyewon, Yoo Jaeseon, Lee Seungbeom, Kim Habin, and Choi Jihye.
The Bronze Prizes were awarded for the following research: 'The Effect of Knowledge about Prosthetic Treatment (Dentures, Implants) on the Oral Health Value of the Elderly,' by Kim Nayeon, Baek Jiweon, Jeong Sumin, Jo Eunjae, Ji Hyeongyeong, and Choi Dayeon; and 'The Effect of Adolescents' e-Health Literacy on Oral Health Interest and Oral Health Management Behaviors,' by Kim Yeeun, Kim Yebin, Kim Hana, Baek Jimin, Song Hyewon, Ji Hanbyeol, and Jo Yebin.
The Encouragement Prizes were awarded for the following studies: 'The Relationship between Middle-Aged Adults' Enrollment in Private Dental Insurance and Their Subjective Burden of Medical Expenses,' by Kim Sojeong, Park Seojeong, Park Yubin, Park Jihyeon, Lee Youngchae, and Choi Seungyeon; 'The Effect of Dental Hygienists' Professional Identity on Work Engagement,' by Kim Minji, Kim Serin, Park Suhyeon, Yang Kyeongseo, Heo Eunji, Hong Yerin, and Hong Heeun; 'The Effect of Dental Hygienists' Emotional Exhaustion on Work-Life Balance,' by Kang Chaehee, Noh Seoyoung, Kim Soyoon, Kim Yesle, Lee Hyewon, Lee Eunwoo, and Jeon Heewon; and 'The Effect of Students' Impressions of Tattoos on the Professional Role and Image of Dental Hygienists,' by Shin Jiyoon, Jeong Yeram, Jeon Hyeji, Koo Hansol, Kim Haeum, Park Sehyung, and Won Serin.
The Department of Dental Hygiene at Shinhan University College of Health Sciences is committed to nurturing future talents with strong ethical awareness and a clear sense of professional vocation as dental hygiene professionals, based on the Christian founding philosophy of Shinhan University. The six faculty members (Yoon Misook, Lee Kyunghee, Jeong Seonggyun, Kim Sookyung, Cho Hana, and Son Jiyeong) operate a systematic educational program to cultivate professional dental hygienists equipped not only with clinical skills and hospital management capabilities required by the industry, but also with research abilities grounded in academic inquiry.
In addition to its undergraduate program, the Department of Dental Hygiene at Shinhan University College of Health Sciences also offers a master's program in Dental Hygiene within the Department of Health Technology Convergence at the Graduate School. This establishes an educational system where practical training and academic research are harmoniously integrated. Through this, students can deepen their specialized knowledge and research competencies, and the department is establishing itself as a center for cultivating dental hygiene professionals with both expertise and character through various academic achievements and ongoing research activities.
