On October 27, Cinecube, the art cinema operated by Taekwang Group's Tcast, announced that it will hold the "Cinecube 25th Anniversary Special Exhibition: Movies We Loved" from November 12 to 25.
Since its opening in December 2000, Cinecube, the oldest art cinema in Korea, has led the domestic art film viewing culture with its principle of carefully curated programs and optimal viewing environment. In celebration of its 25th anniversary this year, Cinecube held the "Hirokazu Kore-eda Special Exhibition: 25 Years with Kore-eda" in April, and premiered the anthology film "Times of the Theater" at the Busan International Film Festival.
This special exhibition is the final project of the anniversary celebrations and will take place at Cinecube in Gwanghwamun, Seoul. In the "Cinecube 25th Anniversary - Best Films" section, ten films that were highly favored by audiences will be screened. The lineup includes "Perfect Days" and "Buena Vista Social Club" by Wim Wenders; "Shoplifters" and "After Life" by Hirokazu Kore-eda; "Carol" by Todd Haynes; "Incendies" by Denis Villeneuve; and "Amour" by Michael Haneke, among others.
In the "Cine21 - Best Films" section, ten films selected by the film weekly Cine21, which marks its 30th anniversary, will be screened based on a survey of more than 50 filmmakers, including directors Bong Joonho, Ryoo Seungwan, Choi Donghoon, Han Junhee, Kim Jongkwan, Lee Jongpil, writer Jung Seokyung, and critic Duna. Major titles include "Yi Yi" by Edward Yang, "Mother" by Bong Joonho, "Decision to Leave" by Park Chanwook, "Poetry" by Lee Changdong, "Mulholland Drive" by David Lynch, and "Portrait of a Lady on Fire" by C?line Sciamma.
The special screening will feature "Times of the Theater," an anthology film consisting of three short films directed by Lee Jongpil, Yoon Gaeun, and Jang Geonjae, which explores the meaning of viewing and creating within the space of a theater.
