November 1 Is "Korean Beef Eating Day"... Up to 50% Off Nationwide Online and Offline

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on the 27th that it will hold the "Soprise 2025 Korea Hanwoo Sale," offering discounts of 30% to 50% on Hanwoo beef for 14 days from October 28 to November 10 at 630 Hanaro Mart locations, major supermarkets, and leading online malls nationwide.

This discount event is being held to commemorate "Korean Beef Eating Day" on November 1 and to coincide with the Korea Grand Festival (October 29 to November 9), aiming to help stabilize consumer food prices. November 1 was designated as "Korean Beef Eating Day" because the Chinese character for "cow" (牛) contains three strokes resembling the number one (一), and it also symbolizes the day when Hanwoo beef is at its best.

The discounted items include sirloin, which is highly preferred by consumers, as well as brisket, round, bulgogi cuts, and soup cuts. These are available in a range of grades from 1+ to 2. The schedule and items on discount may vary by retailer depending on inventory, so detailed information can be found on the Hanwoo Board and National Hanwoo Association websites, as well as the "Yeogigogi" app.

Discounted prices for first-grade beef per 100 grams are set at 7,950 KRW for sirloin, 4,040 KRW for brisket, and 2,980 KRW or less for bulgogi and soup cuts. These prices are 20% to 30% lower than the average consumer prices for the same period in early November in previous years.

Kim Jonggu, Director General for Food Policy at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, stated, "Korean Beef Eating Day on November 1 was established in 2008 by Hanwoo producers with the intention of offering Hanwoo beef to consumers at affordable prices, and it continues to be celebrated through various commemorative events and Hanwoo discount sales." He added, "We hope consumers take this opportunity to enjoy Hanwoo beef at reasonable prices, and we will continue to implement various measures to stabilize consumer prices for livestock products even after Korean Beef Eating Day."
