Jeongseon County to Provide Rest Area for Residents and Travelers
On October 27, Jeongseon County in Gangwon Province announced that it will promote the creation of a 'Healing & Well-being Lounge (Healing & Rest Lounge)' at Jeongseon Station, a Baekdudaegan Cultural Railway Station, to revitalize the station and improve convenience for residents and travelers.
Jeongseon Station, a major railway stop for the Arirang Tourist Train (A-Train), attracts many tourists every year. However, until now, it has mainly served as a waiting room and information desk, with limitations as a space to showcase local culture and tourism.
To address this, the county will utilize unused space inside Jeongseon Station to create a multipurpose area for both residents and tourists. This space will serve as a hub for education, cultural performances, traveler rest, and the provision of tourism information, among other functions.
The new 'Healing & Well-being Lounge' will be established within Jeongseon Station in Aesan-ri, Jeongseon-eup, at approximately 33 square meters, with a total project cost of 92 million won. The existing waiting room and tourist information center will be integrated, and the facility will be equipped with an electronic whiteboard and air conditioning and heating systems, making it suitable for education, meetings, cultural programs, and more.
The county plans to complete the lounge by the end of this year and expand the project to other cultural railway stations in the area in 2026. Through this initiative, Jeongseon Station will be strengthened not only as a transportation facility but also as a hub for culture and tourism, connecting the traditional market, Arirang culture, and wellness experiences to establish a cultural tourism infrastructure centered on the railway station.
Shin Wonseon, Director of Tourism at Jeongseon County, stated, "The Jeongseon Station Healing & Well-being Lounge will be created as a cultural and relaxation space where residents and tourists can come together," adding, "We aim to develop Jeongseon Station into the center of Baekdudaegan Cultural Railway Stations and further enhance the competitiveness of Jeongseon's tourism."
Meanwhile, Jeongseon County is building a circular tourism network centered on Jeongseon Station by establishing the 'Jeongseon Ararilo (walking trail)' and 'Aesan Fortress and Arirang Ridge Trail (circumferential trail),' connecting the railway station, traditional market, trails, and experiential programs.
