Hanwha Investment & Securities prepared this social contribution program to raise awareness of the importance of environmental protection and to fulfill corporate responsibility for a sustainable society. During the Saetgang Soil Ball Throwing event held on the 19th of last month, employees participated in the entire process of making 'EM (Effective Micro-Organisms) soil balls' and throwing them into Saetgang, reflecting on the significance of restoring urban stream ecosystems. EM soil balls are made by mixing beneficial microorganisms with loess, fermenting the mixture for two weeks, and shaping it into balls. When these balls are introduced into polluted streams, they help improve water quality and remove unpleasant odors.
In addition, on the 17th of this month, Hanwha Investment & Securities carried out an urban forest tree planting activity at Noeul Park in Mapo-gu. Participating employees, under the guidance of environmental experts, planted about 300 rare plants that play an important role in the ecosystem, including Eleutherococcus senticosus, Abeliophyllum distichum, and Corylopsis coreana.
This activity is part of the 'Honey Forest, Bee Forest' program, a carbon sink creation project sponsored by Hanwha Investment & Securities and operated by the Korea Green Foundation, and is significant in that it contributes to the preservation of biodiversity in the local community.
Park Byunggil, Head of the ESG Office at Hanwha Investment & Securities, stated, "This environmental campaign in the second half of the year was meaningful as it raised employees' environmental awareness and provided tangible help in improving the urban ecosystem," adding, "We will continue to plan various programs that fulfill our social responsibilities and practice ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management."
