Opening a New Era of RE100 for Apartment Complexes in Partnership with Gyeonggi Province
Paju City in Gyeonggi Province announced on October 27 that Cheongseok Village Unjeong Dongmund East Apartments, which was selected for the Gyeonggi-do Apartment Solar Power Pilot Project, has achieved successful results through the cooperation of residents and administration, and held its completion ceremony on the 23rd.

This project, promoted as a citizen-participatory energy transition initiative, was made possible by the active engagement and cooperation of the Cheongseok Village Unjeong Dongmund East Residents' Representative Council (led by Lee Gwankwon). It stands as a meaningful example of realizing Paju City's vision of becoming an 'energy-leading city' in the daily lives of its citizens.
The project was carried out with 80% of the total cost funded by the province and the city (40% each). A 30kW solar power generation facility was installed on the apartment rooftop, which is expected to reduce the use of electricity for common areas within the apartment complex.
The completion ceremony was attended by the residents' representatives, the apartment manager, the senior citizens' association president, and other apartment officials and citizens, who toured the rooftop solar facility. One citizen commented, "We expect real benefits such as reduced common electricity costs," and added, "I hope this kind of meaningful project will spread to other apartments as well." The slogan for the event, chosen directly by the residents, was "Our Apartment, Now Generating Power," signifying "the first step for our apartment to generate its own electricity."
This project is a case of renewable energy implementation completed not by administrative leadership but through voluntary will and cooperation from the private sector. It has become an opportunity to spread the RE100 culture in daily life, in line with Paju City's citizen-participatory energy policies.
Going forward, Paju City plans to realize 'Paju, an energy-leading city led by its citizens' through customized energy education and participatory events for each generation, such as the 'Visiting Children's RE100 Class' and 'Paju Energy Day.'
Kim Haewon, Head of the Energy Division, stated, "The Cheongseok Village Unjeong Dongmund East case is a meaningful project completed through citizen cooperation rather than administration," and added, "We will continue to support the spread of renewable energy that citizens can experience and participate in together."
