Strategic Promotional Activities Targeting Tourists from Across the Country
Hapcheon County in South Gyeongsang Province announced on the 27th that it conducted strategic promotional activities to attract twin pumped-storage power plants during the 3rd Hapcheon Hwangto Hanwoo Festival, which was held for three days from the 24th to the 26th. These efforts targeted not only local residents but also tourists from across the country.
At the promotional booth for attracting pumped-storage power plants set up at the event venue, the county promoted the necessity of attracting the Odosan pumped-storage power plant and the details of the project, aiming to expand public consensus and encourage active participation among residents. Through these activities, the county sought to secure local acceptance, reaffirm the community’s commitment to countering population decline and low regional economic growth through the attraction of the pumped-storage power plant, and strengthen the will of the residents.

In addition, the county provided information on the progress of the Dumusan pumped-storage power plant construction project (located in Sanje-ri and Banpo-ri, Myosan-myeon, Hapcheon County, with a capacity of 900MW), which was selected as the preferred project in December 2023. The county stated that the project would significantly contribute to revitalizing the local economy by improving resident welfare and creating jobs through the discovery of new tourism resources linked to existing attractions.
Hapcheon County is pursuing the construction of the nation’s first and largest twin pumped-storage power plants to address the issues of population decline and low regional economic growth caused by declining birth rates and an aging population. In addition to carrying out administrative procedures for the Dumusan pumped-storage power plant project, the county is focusing on securing local acceptance for the Odosan pumped-storage power plant. The county is enhancing residents’ understanding and expanding consensus through on-site project briefings by village and plant tours, and expects to inject new vitality into the region through systematic and efficient administrative support and mutually beneficial cooperation.
County Governor Kim Yooncheol stated, “This year’s Hapcheon Hwangto Hanwoo Festival served as an opportunity to widely share our county’s strong desire to attract twin pumped-storage power plants with not only Hapcheon residents but also tourists from across the country,” adding, “Until the attraction of the Odosan pumped-storage power plant is confirmed, we will mobilize all administrative resources and continue our efforts based on the consensus of our residents.”
