2025 National Student Astronomy Observation Festival Concludes Successfully
Stars from Across the Country Gather in Sacheon
Sacheon City in South Gyeongsang Province announced on October 27 that the '2025 National Student Astronomy Observation Festival,' held at KB Ingenium within the city from October 25 to 26, concluded successfully.
The festival, co-hosted by the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute and the Korean Amateur Astronomical Society, brought together more than 130 middle and high school students from over 30 teams nationwide. The students engaged in passionate scientific exchanges centered on stars and space. Sacheon City sponsored the event.
The festival aimed to foster student interest in stars and space as future leaders of the space era, to lay the groundwork for talent development, and to promote scientific culture by enhancing astronomical observation skills and revitalizing astronomy club activities.
During the festival, participating students took part in a variety of educational programs, including special lectures from astronomy experts, nighttime observations using astronomical telescopes, and exchanges between astronomy clubs.
In particular, during the 'Nighttime Astronomy Observation Session' held under clear autumn skies, students personally observed constellations, planets, and nebulae, experiencing a profound sense of wonder and curiosity.
Sacheon City is currently pursuing the construction of an aerospace convergence city to strengthen South Korea's space science competitiveness. The city plans to establish a future-oriented urban area that integrates industrial, research, educational, residential, and commercial functions, aiming to become the nation's leading aerospace science city.
Mayor Park Dongsik stated, "It is very meaningful that an event where young people from across the country can cultivate scientific literacy and interact with one another was held in Sacheon. We will continue to develop a variety of science education programs to nurture future talent."
