On October 25 (local time), French daily Le Figaro reported that two suspects involved in the theft of jewelry from the Louvre Museum, France's most renowned museum, have been arrested.
According to the report, French investigative authorities arrested and detained the two suspects on charges of organized theft and forming a criminal organization. One suspect was apprehended at the airport while preparing to board a flight to Algeria, while the other was reportedly attempting to travel to Mali in Africa.
Both male suspects are in their 30s and are from Seine-Saint-Denis. Authorities believe both have prior theft convictions and suspect that they committed the crime under someone else's direction. Investigators are questioning the suspects about the circumstances of the crime and are tracking down the remaining accomplices.
Meanwhile, the four-member theft ring broke into the Apollo Gallery inside the Louvre Museum on the morning of October 19 and stole eight pieces of jewelry within seven minutes before fleeing the scene. The stolen jewelry is estimated to be worth approximately 149.9 billion won.
