Three Top Cities Selected by Gyeongnam Evaluation Committee and Recommended to the Office for Government Policy Coordination
All-Out Effort for Final Designation
Yangsan City in South Gyeongsang Province was selected as one of the top local governments, along with Gimhae City and Hadong County, at the Gyeongnam Province Youth-Friendly City Evaluation Committee held on October 22.
Under the vision of "Yangsan, a youth-friendly city where young people gather, work, enjoy, and move forward together," Yangsan City has established four main strategies: ▲promoting youth inflow and strengthening residential support, ▲expanding youth culture and leisure infrastructure, ▲enhancing youth welfare based on the local industrial structure, and ▲reinforcing the youth social safety net. The city has also selected six specific policy tasks to implement these strategies in detail.
In particular, during this Gyeongnam Province evaluation, Yangsan City's proactive policies supporting isolated and reclusive youth were recognized as unique local initiatives rarely seen in other municipalities, earning high praise.
As a result of being selected as a top local government, Yangsan City will undergo a document review, presentation evaluation, and on-site inspection by the Office for Government Policy Coordination’s evaluation committee, after which the final designation will be determined in December 2025.
If finally designated, Yangsan City will be granted "Youth-Friendly City" status for five years and will receive a total of 1 billion won in combined national and local funding over the next two years, along with administrative support such as government consulting, policy advisory, and education.
Mayor Na Dongyeon stated, "Being nominated as a candidate by Gyeongnam Province is a valuable achievement made possible by the direct participation of Yangsan’s youth in policymaking, and it is a testament to the excellence of our city’s youth policies. We will do our utmost to ensure a successful outcome in the final evaluation by the Office for Government Policy Coordination, and we are committed to realizing a 'Revitalized Yangsan' where young people can stay, take on challenges, and grow."
