On the afternoon of the 24th, the city held the 'Seongnam Urban Air Mobility (UAM) Promotion Plan Establishment Service Kick-off Meeting' in the City Hall 2nd Conference Room, marking the first step toward the 'Seongnam-style UAM' with the goal of commercial operation by 2030.
The meeting was attended by officials from relevant city departments, members of the Future Mobility Subcommittee of the Fourth Industrial Revolution Special City Promotion Group, representatives from the Lotte Consortium, and the service provider Rudasys Co., Ltd. They discussed the project implementation plan, major schedules, and future directions for the initiative.
Since signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Lotte Consortium in July 2023, Seongnam City has held monthly working-level meetings to share government policy trends and has been refining the 'Seongnam-style UAM roadmap' aimed at commercial operation by 2030.
In May last year, the city established a policy foundation through the 'Seongnam Urban Air Mobility (UAM) Introduction Policy Research.' In December of the same year, it completed the institutional framework by enacting the 'Ordinance on Fostering and Supporting the Foundation of the Urban Air Mobility Industry in Seongnam.'
This service is a follow-up step to develop the results of these policy studies into a concrete action plan. It includes analysis of UAM flight routes and base (vertiport) locations, strategies to secure public acceptance, and infrastructure development strategies. Based on these outcomes, the city plans to participate in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's regional pilot project competition in the future.
The service period will run for eight months, from October 2025 to May 2026, with Rudasys Co., Ltd. as the implementing agency.
Shin Sangjin, Mayor of Seongnam, stated, "This kick-off meeting marks an important starting point for Seongnam City to become a leading city in the urban air mobility industry. We will ensure safe and convenient mobility for citizens, create new industries and jobs, and expand opportunities for urban growth."
