Assemblywoman Cho Jokhyun Hosts 'ESG Activation' Forum
Discussions on Renewable Energy Transition and Regional Extinction Issues

The Jeonnam Provincial Assembly has embarked on creating an ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) implementation model tailored to the realities of the region.

On October 22, Assemblywoman Cho Jokhyun (Democratic Party of Korea, Mokpo 2) held the "Jeonnam ESG Activation Forum" at the Provincial Assembly's Choui Room, where the Assembly, the Jeonnam ESG Association, experts, and residents discussed sustainable ESG strategies and practical measures.

Assemblywoman Cho stated, "As international ESG standards are being rapidly strengthened, I hope this will serve as a starting point for seeking practical solutions suited to Jeonnam's circumstances."

Ko Seokgyu, Chair of the Jeonnam Sustainable Development Committee and keynote speaker, explained Jeonnam's potential for carbon neutrality and emphasized, "A realistic ESG model begins with building an inclusive society and responding to multiculturalism."

Moon Chaejoo, Research Professor at Korea Institute of Energy Technology (KENTECH), gave a presentation on "RE100 and Utilization of Renewable Energy," explaining the current status and challenges of "RE100," which aims to convert 100% of corporate electricity to renewable energy. He stressed, "Both industry and the local community must prepare together to accelerate the transition."

The forum also discussed practical actions in daily life and ways to encourage regional participation.

Assemblywoman Kim Mikyung remarked, "Responding to the climate crisis and achieving sustainable development starts with small actions in daily life, such as using tumblers and walking." She added, "It is urgent to establish practical support measures that will not only involve large corporations but also encourage the participation of small and medium-sized enterprises."

Professor Lee Dongeun of Mokpo University presented on "Inclusive Society and Multicultural Policy," proposing ways to link education, welfare, and local policies. Kim Bokyun, Head of the Gangjin-gun Youth Support Center, introduced youth-led projects and regional collaboration strategies through his presentation on "Promoting Youth ESG Practices."

Professor Hong Jimyung of Sehan University, in his presentation on "Overcoming the Crisis of Regional Extinction and Governance," emphasized the importance of cooperation among local governments, assemblies, the education sector, and civil society.

Assemblywoman Cho said, "This forum was a meaningful opportunity to seek a practical model that residents can truly experience, rather than just a formal introduction of ESG." She added, "I hope all residents will work together so that the Jeonnam-style ESG can become a model case for the entire country."
