On the 24th, Jeonnam Province held the inauguration ceremony for the 2nd Jeonnam Province Local Era Committee at the Seo Jae-pil Room of the Provincial Office, aiming to lead balanced regional development in this era of national sovereignty.

The 2nd Jeonnam Province Local Era Committee consists of 20 members in total, including 18 appointed experts with practical experience in various fields such as the regional economy, local autonomy and decentralization, science and technology, tourism, and education, as well as 2 ex officio members.

The committee will be chaired by Kim Eunsook, Executive Director of the Jeonnam Women's Policy Forum, whose term will last for two years, until October 3, 2027.

Based on their respective expertise, the committee members will closely cooperate not only with regional innovation stakeholders (industry, academia, research, government, and civil society) but also with the central government. Their role includes reviewing Jeonnam Province's mid- to long-term plans and major policy projects related to local autonomy and balanced regional development.

The previous 1st committee played a crucial role in supporting Jeonnam's balanced development policies by reviewing key projects such as the designation of Opportunity Development Zones and Education Development Zones, regional development investment agreements, and the formulation of the Local Era Plan and the Gwangju-Jeonnam Mega-Region Development Plan, ensuring smooth implementation.

The 2nd committee is also expected to serve as a strong governance body that will further accelerate balanced regional development.

At the first meeting held immediately after the inauguration ceremony, in-depth discussions were held on the future policy direction for Jeonnam Province, focusing on the progress of the "Five Core, Three Special Regional Growth Engines"-the balanced growth strategy of the Lee Jaemyung administration-and the "Gwangju-Jeonnam Special Metropolitan Alliance."

Chairperson Kim Eunsook stated, "To promote local autonomy and balanced development in Jeonnam, I will ensure that committee members actively participate and provide policy recommendations so that these can be reflected in actual policies, thereby operating the committee effectively."

Kang Wiwon, Vice Governor for Economic Affairs of Jeonnam Province, emphasized, "Opportunities that will bring transformative changes to residents' lives are being created, such as the establishment of the SK and OpenAI AI Data Center, the National Computing Center, the new national medical school in Jeonnam, and the attraction of RE100 industrial complexes. Jeonnam must stand at the center of these changes and take the lead in driving balanced development."

He added, "In line with the era of national sovereignty, we will work closely with the 2nd Jeonnam Province Local Era Committee and the central government to achieve balanced national growth."
