Sejong Chungnam National University Hospital held an integrated support project briefing session and forum for the commercialization of smart digital healthcare products on October 24 at the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel Sejong, with officials from life science research institutes of national university hospitals in the central and southern regions in attendance.

This forum was organized as part of the integrated support project for the commercialization of smart digital healthcare products, aiming to establish a comprehensive support system that bridges the usability gap between medical institutions and healthcare companies and increases the success rate of commercialization.

During the forum, presentations were given on clinical trial support, strategies for enhancing product competitiveness, regulatory support for approvals from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, usability evaluation support for digital healthcare, and roadmaps for overseas certification, all focused on the advancement of digital healthcare solutions jointly developed by medical institutions and healthcare companies.

In particular, the core topics included roadmaps for clinical trials of medical devices and overseas market entry and certification, which are essential for researchers and companies in the digital healthcare sector. The forum was conducted with a focus on applicable case studies.

Previously, in August, Sejong Chungnam National University Hospital was selected as the lead organization for the 'Integrated Support for Commercialization of Smart Digital Healthcare Products' project, organized by the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology. The hospital participated as part of a consortium with the Korea Smart Healthcare Association, Seoul National University Hospital, Korea Testing Laboratory, Daejeon University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, the Integrated Healthcare Association, and the Changwon Industry Promotion Agency. Over the next five years, the project will serve as a control tower, with approximately 26.4 billion KRW (about 26.4 billion won) in government R&D funding, institutional R&D contributions, and matching local funds from Changwon Special City.

The main purpose of this project is to enhance the industrial competitiveness of domestic companies by supporting industrial policy and private sector utilization through the establishment of an import-export trade statistics system, as well as by promoting overseas certification through clinical trials and advanced demonstration of digital healthcare products.

Lee Jeonggil, co-principal investigator and Director of the Institute for Future Medicine at Sejong Chungnam National University Hospital (Professor of Orthopedic Surgery), stated, "Since its opening, Sejong Chungnam National University Hospital has continuously co-developed and applied digital healthcare solutions in clinical practice, making it the most optimal institution to serve as a control tower for supporting hospital consortium projects in the central and southern regions. We plan to announce and monitor future projects for digital healthcare clinical trials and usability assessments."

Lim Sungjun, principal investigator and team leader at the Integrated Healthcare Association, explained, "In the era of artificial intelligence transformation, clinical trials and overseas expansion of digital healthcare solutions are inevitable processes. Hospital-centered support projects can serve as a bridgehead for securing marketability and advancing national industries."
