Teaching Jongmyo Jerye and Talchum to Foreign Professionals in Korea

Every Saturday for Five Weeks Starting October 25
Direct Lectures by Intangible Heritage Holders

Teaching Jongmyo Jerye and Talchum to Foreign Professionals in Korea Last year, a visit to Jingwansa Temple in Seoul was conducted as part of the K-Heritage Leadership Program.

The "K-Heritage Leadership" program, a diplomatic and exchange initiative designed to promote understanding of Korean culture through experiences with national heritage, will be held every Saturday from October 25 to November 22 at the Seoul Education Center of the Korea National University of Cultural Heritage.

This is an advanced course for foreign professionals residing in Korea who work in fields such as culture, education, diplomacy, media, and industry. It is an extension of the "K-Heritage Academy," which began in 2023. Building on last year's experience, the program has further strengthened its field-oriented education.

This year's theme is "Korea's Intangible Heritage." The instructors include university professors as well as holders and trainees of national intangible heritage. Participants will learn about the Jongmyo Jerye ritual and the traditional process of making a gat (traditional Korean hat), and will also take part in hands-on activities such as making traditional knots. In addition, they will observe the restoration of a gwaebul (large Buddhist banner painting), which is a form of paper painting restoration, and experience the preservation and transmission of heritage through a talchum (mask dance) workshop.

A representative from the Korea National University of Cultural Heritage said, "We hope that foreign professionals will gain a correct understanding of Korea's national heritage and help broaden international consensus."
