Democratic Party Jeonnam Provincial Committee Begins Chairperson Election Process

Seven Agenda Items Approved

The Jeonnam Provincial Election Commission of the Democratic Party of Korea (Chairman Choi Hyungsik) held its first meeting on October 23 and approved seven agenda items, including the election of the Jeonnam Provincial Party Chairperson and the election schedule.

The election for the provincial party chairperson will be conducted over three days through an ARS (automated response system) vote by rights-holding party members and national delegates. The final result will be determined by reflecting the valid votes of rights-holding party members and national delegates in a 90 to 10 ratio.

The right to vote for national delegates and rights-holding party members will be granted to those who joined the party before March 31 and have paid party dues at least six times between October 1, 2024, and September 30, 2025.

Meanwhile, starting with candidate registration on October 27 and continuing until the election of the provincial party chairperson on November 2, the election commission will oversee the entire election process, including the preparation of the voter list, management of voting and counting, and the confirmation and announcement of the winner. In addition, to enhance work efficiency and ensure smooth party operations, subcommittees have been established.

Chairman Choi Hyungsik stated, "As this is expected to be the first election for the Jeonnam Provincial Party Chairperson through a primary in ten years, I hope the extraordinary party convention will become a festive occasion." He added, "However, we will hold those involved strictly accountable for any illegal electioneering, including vote-buying or slander against candidates."
