On the morning of the 23rd, the Honam Development Special Committee of the Democratic Party held a joint forum with the Gwangju-Jeonnam Media Forum at the ACC Design Hotel in Gwangju to review regional issues. This event was organized to allow local media and the special committee to come together, comprehensively assess public opinion on the ground, and seek practical directions for development.
The forum focused on several key topics: the failure to attract the National AI Computing Center, the outflow of the youth population from Gwangju and the risk of regional extinction, the energy cost structure that hinders corporate attraction, the burden of agricultural production costs, and Honam's marginalization in industrial policy. Participants demanded tangible results and a responsible attitude, stating that "residents of Honam who have supported the Democratic Party have not felt sufficient change."
Kim Seongui, Chairman of the Gwangju-Jeonnam Media Forum, stated, "This is an opportunity to discuss the core issues of Gwangju and Jeonnam together and seek solutions," adding, "I hope effective policies will be developed through broad communication with local residents."
Lee Byunghoon, Senior Vice Chairman, emphasized, "The issues discussed today are not mere complaints but vital tasks for the survival of Honam," stressing that "national-level support in terms of budget, policy, and legislation is necessary." He added, "We will respond sensitively to public sentiment and create a policy roadmap that people can truly feel."
Meanwhile, the Honam Development Special Committee plans to continue holding meetings with experts and organizations from various sectors in the region until the end of the year, compile on-site opinions, and deliver them to Democratic Party leader Jeong Cheongrae.
