Jangseong County in Jeonnam announced on the 23rd that it will showcase village festivals highlighting the region's unique characteristics on the 25th.
First, a festival where visitors can fully experience traditional Makgeolli will be held in Jangseong-eup. The 2nd Jangseong Yeongcheon Makgeolli Festival is a celebration that revives the historical significance of Jangseong-eup, once home to many Makgeolli breweries. The festival garnered significant interest and positive response last year. The event is hosted by the Jangseong Yeongcheon-ri Makgeolli Festival Promotion Committee and organized by Jangseong-eup.
This year, the festival will take place along the old Maeil Market alley, with the road closed off up to the Jangseong Park waterfall area. The main events will include a Makgeolli toast, the Namdo Makgeolli Grand Prix, performances by invited singers, DJing, magic shows, and a variety of other attractions.
On one side of the festival grounds, visitors can also enjoy hands-on programs such as Makgeolli tasting, spinning a "100% prize roulette," taking "Life Four Cuts" photos, playing retro arcade games, and making Makgeolli soap.
Meanwhile, the 2nd Buk-i-myeon Samnamdaero Street Art Festival will be held in the area around Sagori Traditional Market in Buk-i-myeon. The festivities will begin with the "Bountiful Harvest Street Parade" stretching from Baegyangsa Station to Sagori Market, and will feature changgeuk (traditional Korean opera), poetry performances, presentations by local residents, dance, and daegeum (bamboo flute) performances.
Additionally, lively activities such as the "Bountiful Harvest Games," where people of all ages can enjoy traditional games like Tuho and rubber shoe archery, as well as a "Chimaek Party" (chicken and beer), will continue into the afternoon.
Traditional cultural experiences such as straw rope making, a photo zone, an old photo exhibition of Buk-i-myeon, an exhibition of works by artist Jeong Chanok, and booths selling local agricultural products are also expected to draw interest. The Samnamdaero Street Art Festival Promotion Committee is hosting the event, with Buk-i-myeon as the organizer.
County Governor Kim Hanjong said, "I hope many people will show interest in and visit these local festivals, which are rich in history and charm," adding, "In the evening, I also recommend visiting the Jangseong Hwangryonggang Autumn Flower Festival."
Meanwhile, on the evening of the 25th, which marks the eighth day of the Jangseong Hwangryonggang Autumn Flower Festival, the main stage at Hwangryong Garden will host the opening of the "Memory Theater" show, hosted by comedian Lee Hongryeol. On the festival's final day, the 26th, the finals of the "Jeongun Singing Contest Secret Audition" and the "Jangseong Youth Peace Concert" are scheduled to take place.
