The crackdown targets vehicles that have failed to pay automobile taxes more than twice, as well as vehicles with over 300,000 won in overdue vehicle-related fines that have remained unpaid for more than 60 days.

The city will use vehicles equipped with license plate seizure systems to conduct concentrated enforcement in areas with high vehicle density, such as public parking lots and apartment complexes.

When an overdue vehicle is identified, the outstanding balance will be checked on-site and the license plate will be seized immediately. In particular, for habitual or high-value offenders, such as vehicles registered under false names, the city plans to take strong action by towing and auctioning the vehicles as soon as they are found.

Overdue automobile taxes can be checked and paid immediately via the Wetax online system, bank CD/ATM machines, or the ARS (142211) phone service. Once the full amount is paid, the license plate will be returned.

A city official stated, "We urge residents to pay any overdue taxes in advance to avoid inconvenience in daily life and economic activities caused by license plate seizure," adding, "We will continue ongoing enforcement activities to secure stable financial resources and foster a mature tax culture in which diligent taxpayers are respected."

Meanwhile, the city established a dedicated task force for the seizure of overdue vehicles this year and has been conducting year-round enforcement to ensure fair tax administration. Since March, the city has cracked down on 1,928 overdue vehicles through ongoing enforcement, collecting a total of 1 billion won in local taxes.
