Gijang County in Busan to Host Local Flea Market "Pado Market in Mundong" Connecting Sea and Community

Autumn Vibes at Mundong Breakwater, October 25-26
A Variety of Local Products, Marine Leisure, and Busking

Gijang County (Governor Jung Jongbok) announced on October 22 that the local flea market “Pado Market in Mundong” will be held for two days from October 25 to 26 in the area around Mundong Breakwater.

Now in its second year, the event is themed “A Bountiful Autumn, a Market Resembling the Sea,” and features a variety of local tourism programs, including the sale of specialty products from Mundong Village, marine healing and leisure experiences, and busking performances.

The event will be centered around the Mundong Direct Sales Center, which opened in June, and will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Residents of Mundong Village will participate directly, creating an opportunity for local cooperation. Fresh agricultural and seafood products such as seaweed, kelp, and scallions grown by the residents, as well as “Gijang Scallion Pancakes” made with local recipes, will be available for purchase. In addition, the market will offer local brand products, handmade crafts, and other Gijang specialties, providing a wide range of food, attractions, and shopping experiences.

The event also features a rich variety of hands-on programs. These include the “Marine Healing Class Nordic Walking” along the Mundong Port breakwater, a paddleboard program on the sea, “Sea Graffiti,” a participatory art activity using the breakwater as a sketchbook, sea-themed experience programs, busking performances in front of the old port, and an Anabada flea market, ensuring content that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

This year, the event will be held in conjunction with the “19th Gijang Grilled Sea Eel Festival in Chilam,” which takes place during the same period. A free shuttle bus will operate between Jwacheon Station, Chilam, and Mundong during the event, and participants who bring a pamphlet received from the sea eel festival promotion booth can join a prize event. This is expected to strengthen tourism connections in the Mundong and Munoseong areas and revitalize the local economy.

Jung Jongbok, Governor of Gijang County, stated, “I hope Pado Market will become a new source of vitality and communication for Mundong Village,” adding, “We will actively support local tourism that highlights the unique charm of the area and the revitalization of the fishing village economy.”

“Pado Market in Mundong” is being promoted as part of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries’ Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project. Since 2023, Gijang County has been carrying out various local cooperation projects around Mundong Breakwater under the vision of “Mundong Sea Garden of Recovery and Coexistence,” which will continue through 2026.
