Gyeongbuk Public School Quota for Applicants with Disabilities 'Undersubscribed'
The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 22nd that the application period for the 2026 Daegu public and private secondary school teacher recruitment exams has closed, resulting in a competition rate of 6.93 to 1 for public schools and 11.45 to 1 for private schools.
By field, the competition rate for public school teachers (including the quota for applicants with disabilities) was 6.93 to 1, with 1,102 applicants for 159 positions. This is a decrease compared to last year’s 9.42 to 1. The number of positions to be filled increased by 99 compared to the previous year (from 60 to 159, up 165%), and the number of applicants also increased by 537 (from 565 to 1,102, up 95%).
For private school teachers, the competition rate was 11.45 to 1, with 378 applicants for 33 positions. This is an increase compared to last year’s 8.61 to 1. The number of positions to be filled decreased by 39 compared to the previous year (from 72 to 33, down 54.2%), and the number of applicants also decreased by 242 (from 620 to 378, down 39%).
The first round of exams will be held on November 22. For public school applicants, the list of successful candidates for the first round will be announced on the city education office website on December 26. For private school applicants, the results will be announced on the respective foundation’s website after December 26.
The second round of exams for those who pass the first round of the public school exam will be held over three days: a practical evaluation on January 14, 2026, a class demonstration on January 20, and an in-depth interview on teaching aptitude on January 21. The final list of successful candidates will be announced on February 5, 2026.
For private schools, the second round of exams and the announcement of final successful candidates will be conducted according to each school foundation’s schedule.
The Gyeongbuk Office of Education (Superintendent Lim Jong-sik) announced on the 22nd that, following the application period for the "2026 Public and Private Secondary School Teacher and Special (Secondary) Professional Teacher Recruitment Candidate Selection Exam" held from the 13th to the 17th, the competition rate was 5.67 to 1 for public schools and 6.60 to 1 for private schools.
This year’s competition rate for public secondary school teachers was slightly lower than last year’s 6.84 to 1, while the rate for private schools rose slightly from 5.84 to 1.
For public school teacher recruitment, there were 2,053 applicants for 334 general positions, resulting in a competition rate of 6.15 to 1. For the quota for applicants with disabilities, 18 applicants competed for 31 positions, resulting in a competition rate of 0.58 to 1.
For private school teacher recruitment conducted by commission, 805 applicants competed for 122 positions at 43 foundations, resulting in a competition rate of 6.60 to 1. In addition, there were 633 applicants who applied for both public (as first choice) and private (as second choice) schools.
The subjects with the highest competition rates were Plant Resources Landscaping and Chinese Classics, each recording a rate of 14 to 1, followed by Music (11.67 to 1) and Art (10.5 to 1).
Details such as exam venues will be announced on the Gyeongbuk Office of Education website on November 14.
