"Practicing Hometown Love" ... Goseong County Honorary Ambassador Um Honggil Donates 1 Million Won to Hometown Love Fund

Um Honggil, the honorary ambassador of Goseong County in South Gyeongsang Province, recently demonstrated his love for his hometown by donating to the Hometown Love Donation Fund.

According to Goseong County on October 21, Um Honggil donated 1 million won to the Hometown Love Donation Fund on October 18.


Um Honggil, a native of Yeonghyeon-myeon in Goseong County, is a world-renowned mountaineer who became the first person to climb all 16 peaks over 8,000 meters. Through the "Um Honggil Human Foundation," he has established 20 Human Schools, hospitals, and dormitories in Nepal, and continues to make a positive impact by supporting the Himalayan Human Scholarship and medical aid projects, as well as youth support programs both in Korea and abroad.


Um stated, "I want to give back even a little of the love I have received from my hometown, Goseong County," adding, "I hope more people will participate in the Hometown Love Donation Fund and help contribute to the development of Goseong County."


County Governor Lee Sanggeun expressed his gratitude, saying, "Following the 13th Mount Georyusan Hiking Festival with Um Honggil, I am thankful for the warm interest and affection you have shown for your hometown. The valuable donation you have made will be used meaningfully to improve the welfare of our residents."


Meanwhile, the Hometown Love Donation Fund is a program that allows individuals to donate up to 20 million won per year to local governments other than the one where they are registered as residents.


Donations up to 100,000 won are fully tax-deductible, and for amounts exceeding 100,000 won, a 16.5% tax deduction is applied. In addition, donors can receive return gifts such as local specialty products worth up to 30% of their donation.
