KOSPI Rises at Open, Sets Another All-Time High Near 3,880 Mark

Soars to 3,876.61 During the Session
KOSDAQ Starts Above 880 Mark

On October 21, the KOSPI started the day above the 3,850 mark, once again breaking its all-time high. The KOSDAQ also began trading with a slight upward trend.

As of 9:17 a.m. on this day, the KOSPI was up 1.48% from the previous trading day, standing at 3,871.12. The index opened at 3,851.01, up 0.95% from the previous session, and at one point during the morning soared to 3,876.61, setting another intraday all-time high following the previous day.


By investor type, foreign investors led the upward momentum by purchasing 66.5 billion won worth of shares. In contrast, individual investors and institutions sold off 49.6 billion won and 3.5 billion won, respectively.


Most sectors were on the rise. The electricity and gas sector posted the largest gain at 5.06%, followed by transportation equipment and parts (3.43%), construction (3.33%), machinery and equipment (3.08%), general services (2.12%), manufacturing (1.67%), electrical and electronics (1.60%), insurance (1.37%), distribution (1.01%), medical and precision equipment (0.95%), and finance (0.91%). On the other hand, securities (-1.21%), food, beverage and tobacco (-0.62%), textiles and apparel (-0.52%), real estate (-0.19%), and telecommunications (-0.18%) were declining.


All of the top 10 stocks by market capitalization were on the rise. Major semiconductor stocks such as Samsung Electronics (up 1.22%) and SK Hynix (up 2.78%) were strong, while LG Energy Solution (up 0.35%), Samsung Biologics (up 0.44%), Hyundai Motor (up 5.65%), Doosan Enerbility (up 3.49%), HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (up 5.47%), and Kia (up 3.32%) also showed upward trends.


At the same time, the KOSDAQ was up 0.56% from the previous trading day, standing at 880.64. The index opened at 881.53, up 0.66% from the previous session, rose as high as 882.10, and then pulled back slightly.


Individual investors made a net purchase of 104.8 billion won, while foreign investors and institutions sold off 92.1 billion won and 4.2 billion won, respectively.


By sector, metals (up 1.59%), telecommunications (up 1.06%), pharmaceuticals (up 1.01%), transportation equipment and parts (up 1.04%), transportation and storage (up 1.00%), IT services (up 0.90%), distribution (up 0.84%), electrical and electronics (up 0.71%), and manufacturing (up 0.62%) were rising, while non-metals (down 1.51%), publishing and media replication (down 0.64%), textiles and apparel (down 0.28%), and finance (down 0.19%) were declining.


Among the top market cap stocks, Peptron (up 0.55%), HLB (up 10.56%), LegoChem Biosciences (up 0.37%), ABL Bio (up 0.46%), and Samchundang Pharm (up 0.60%) were rising. Ecopro BM (down 0.75%), Ecopro (down 0.51%), Rainbow Robotics (down 1.27%), and PharmaResearch (down 0.33%) were on the decline.
