GTX-A Extension from Dongtan to Pyeongtaek Jije Station Passes Central Investment Review

The project to extend the Greater Seoul Metropolitan Express Railway (GTX) line to Pyeongtaek has received a green light.

The Pyeongtaek City Government announced on October 20 that the "GTX-A Pyeongtaek Extension Project" has conditionally passed the central investment review by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

This project involves extending the GTX-A line by 20.9 kilometers from Dongtan Station to Pyeongtaek Jije Station. A total of 263.7 billion won is expected to be invested in the project. Once completed, it will allow access from Pyeongtaek Jije Station to the Gangnam area of Seoul within 30 minutes.

Pyeongtaek City proposed the project to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in 2023. It subsequently passed a feasibility review by the National Railroad Authority last year and a feasibility study by the Korea Research Institute for Local Administration this year. The city then requested a central investment review in July, and the project has now conditionally passed.

The review set forth several conditions: the project must proceed according to the funding plan; additional funding measures, such as securing national funds, must be prepared; and a second-stage review must be conducted after the completion of the detailed design.

The city plans to actively pursue follow-up procedures, including securing budgets for basic and detailed design, strengthening cooperation with relevant agencies, and expediting subsequent administrative processes, following the project's conditional approval.

Pyeongtaek Mayor Jung Jangsun stated, "The extension of the GTX-A line will not only improve transportation convenience for citizens but also greatly enhance Pyeongtaek's urban competitiveness. We will do our utmost to ensure that the project and subsequent procedures proceed smoothly without any setbacks."
