Gwangmyeong City in Gyeonggi Province will host the 2nd Gwangmyeong City Residents' Autonomy Expo on October 25 at the lawn plaza of the Gwangmyeong Citizens Sports Center.
This event is designed to share the achievements of residents' autonomy associations with citizens, spread the value of autonomy, and provide a platform for communication and hands-on experiences where citizens can directly participate and bring about changes in their communities.
The event will feature a Residents' Autonomy Exhibition, Residents' Autonomy Festival booths, and community promotion and experience booths operated by each neighborhood's residents' autonomy association and local communities. There will also be a social economy sharing market with the participation of nine social enterprises.
Visitors can experience residents' autonomy activities at exhibition and experience booths themed around resident participation, carbon neutrality, generational harmony, and arts villages. They can also take part in QR code evaluations and a stamp tour event. A community achievements sharing session will be held, showcasing various examples of local community activities.
On the same day, the Residents' Autonomy Festival, a competition of programs from residents' autonomy centers, will take place. The festival will feature performances such as dance, musical instruments, and traditional arts, all planned and performed by the residents themselves.
The venue will include a picnic mat zone, bean bag zone, food truck zone, and parasol zone, allowing families and neighbors to enjoy the autumn atmosphere together.
Park Seungwon, Mayor of Gwangmyeong, stated, "This expo is an opportunity for residents to directly participate and lead changes in their communities," adding, "The process of citizens taking the lead in realizing the value of autonomy will further enrich grassroots democracy in Gwangmyeong City."
