"Treated as a Problem Passenger... Couldn't Eat for 15 Hours" Singer Soyou Exposes Racial Discrimination by US Airline

Soyou Reveals Racial Discrimination on Delta Air Lines in the US
Says, "Couldn't Eat Anything for 15 Hours"

Singer Soyou (34), formerly of the group Sistar, revealed that she experienced racial discrimination on a Delta Air Lines flight in the United States. She claimed that she was treated as a "problem passenger" and that security personnel were called simply because she requested a Korean flight attendant.

On the 19th, Soyou posted a photo of her Delta Air Lines boarding pass on her Instagram, writing, "After finishing my schedule in New York, I boarded a connecting flight from Atlanta to Korea. I was extremely tired and only asked for a Korean flight attendant to check the meal time, but the purser judged my attitude and treated me like a problematic passenger, even suddenly calling security."

Soyou continued, "I even had to say, 'If I'm the problem, I'll get off,' and I had to endure cold stares and attitudes throughout the entire flight. At that moment, I wondered, 'Is this racial discrimination?' I couldn't eat anything during the more than 15-hour flight, and that experience left a deep wound rooted in racial prejudice. I hope that no one is ever doubted or insulted because of their race."

Hyeri also experienced it... "Bought first class, got economy"

Previously, Hyeri, formerly of the group Girl's Day, revealed that she also had an unpleasant experience with this airline in August 2023. She had reserved a first-class seat but was forcibly downgraded to an economy seat without any refund.

At the time, Hyeri posted a photo of part of her ticket on her social media, explaining, "I made the reservation and selected my seat a month and a half in advance, but they said there were no first-class seats and downgraded me to economy. They wouldn't give me a refund and told me to take the next flight if I didn't like the seat. I even reserved two seats-how could both be downgraded? It was such a baffling experience. I hope everyone is careful."

In response, Delta Air Lines explained, "This was an unavoidable situation that occurred during the process of changing to a smaller aircraft for safe operation," and stated that they were belatedly processing a refund for the fare difference. They added, "In such rare cases, Delta Air Lines offers affected passengers the option to take the next flight with first-class seating or to receive a refund for the fare difference if they fly economy." They further stated, "The refund for the fare difference is currently being processed."
