This festival, being held for the first time this year, is an urban history and culture event themed 'Jung-gu, the Birthplace of Admiral Yi Sun-sin.' The festival will feature the proclamation ceremony for the new city brand 'Yi Sun-sin 1545 Jung-gu,' as well as a variety of hands-on experiences and performances.
The event will begin with the official launch of Jung-gu's new city brand, 'Yi Sun-sin 1545 Jung-gu.' The number '1545' represents the birth year of Admiral Yi Sun-sin and embodies the identity of Jung-gu, where his indomitable spirit and leadership began.
The main stage, 'Sun-sin ROCK,' set up at the Myeongbo intersection, will showcase performances by the Navy PR breakdancing team, Jung-gu's honorary ambassador Kim Taeyeon, and a series of K-performances, including taekwondo, cheerleading, and traditional Korean dance. The festival will also feature the 'Ironman Yi Sun-sin Contest' to find the strongest participant, a bar exercise performance by YouTuber Lee Dohyun, who has 2.16 million subscribers, and a Navy fringe performance, further energizing the event.
The 'Sun-sin PLAY' experience zone, designed for all ages from children to seniors, will offer programs that bridge tradition and the future, such as building turtle ships, coloring the War Diary, and drone soccer. At the 'Sun-sin MARKET,' visitors can browse creative products by local merchants and artists, including Le Essi Perfume Workshop and Sun-sin Gold & Silver Shop. There will also be an exhibition of Yi Sun-sin paintings created by seniors and an upcycling workshop.
The 'Sun-sin FIELD' food zone will feature popular Jung-gu restaurants such as Geumdoeji Sikdang, Taegukdang, Eunjujeong, and Oldies Taco, offering a wide variety of food options. Residents can also participate in programs like a stamp tour and a large-scale canvas art project.
Residents will play an active role throughout the festival. Two residents from each neighborhood, totaling 30 people, will be selected as '1545 Sun-sin Keepers' to participate in the festival. They will take part in festival promotion and provide on-site support on the day of the event.
In the lead-up to the main festival, Jung-gu has designated October 18 to 24 as 'Yi Sun-sin Week,' during which 37 pre-events are being held, including a walking tour of Yi Sun-sin's path, archery experiences, the original musical 'My Way,' and a Hangeul sculpture art exhibition.
Kim Gilseong, Mayor of Jung-gu, stated, "This festival is designed to revive the spirit of Admiral Yi Sun-sin within the identity of Jung-gu and to create a future-oriented festival together with residents," adding, "We will continue to build 'Jung-gu, the City of Yi Sun-sin,' where history and pride are alive and breathing."
