Announcement of the 2025 Investment Project Plan
Recruitment of Four Sub-Fund Management Companies
Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Kim Jin-tae) and Korea Venture Investment Corp. (CEO Lee Dae-hee) announced on October 19 that they had issued a notice on October 15 for the "Gangwon Strategic Industry Venture Fund 2025 Investment Project Plan" and will officially launch a venture fund formation project totaling 150 billion won. Through this announcement, four sub-fund management companies will be selected as a priority.
The "Gangwon Strategic Industry Venture Fund" laid its foundation after being selected in February this year for the "Regional Era Venture Fund" public offering project hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, securing 60 billion won in investment from the Korea Fund of Funds.
Subsequently, eight local governments-including Gangwon Province, Chuncheon City, Wonju City, Gangneung City, Taebaek City, Samcheok City, Hongcheon County, and Hoengseong County-as well as NH Nonghyup Bank and Korea Venture Investment Corp., jointly participated to establish a parent fund totaling 105.6 billion won.
Based on this, the province plans to sequentially select more than 12 sub-funds through Korea Venture Investment Corp. over three years from 2025 to 2027, and form a total venture fund of 150 billion won.
The established sub-funds will identify and support promising small, venture, and startup companies in Gangwon's seven major future industries, providing full-scale investment and growth support.
For this investment project, additional points will be given to management companies based in the region, those proposing a lower Fund of Funds investment ratio, or those offering a higher regional investment ratio, thereby accelerating the creation of a "region-centered investment ecosystem."
The recruitment of management companies will be open until November 5. After the first round of document screening and a second round of presentations, the final management companies will be selected in December. Detailed information can be found on the Korea Venture Investment Corp. website.
Kim Man-ho, Director of Economic Affairs for Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, stated, "We will strengthen the venture investment ecosystem centered on Gangwon's seven major future industries and continue to provide systematic investment support so that high-growth-potential companies can take another leap forward in the region."
