"Large-Scale Strikes Using Aircraft and Missiles"
On October 18 (local time), Russia launched large-scale airstrikes on drone training facilities and air defense bases in Ukraine, according to a report by the state-run TASS news agency.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated in a press release that "156 targets, including a drone pilot training center under the Ukrainian Defense Intelligence Directorate (HUR), drone production and assembly facilities, and air defense radar bases, were struck using aircraft, drones, and missiles." The ministry also claimed, "Over the past 24 hours, 1,565 Ukrainian troops have been killed."
The Russian Ministry of Defense further asserted that between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., eight Ukrainian drones were shot down over Belgorod, a region bordering Ukraine. It also claimed that, over a 24-hour period, six U.S.-made HIMARS rockets, four guided bombs, and 140 drones were intercepted.
This airstrike is seen as Russia intensifying its offensive in retaliation, as Ukraine has recently continued drone attacks targeting Russian territory.
