"We Will Amend the 4·3 Special Act to Punish Distortion"
On October 18, Cho Kuk, the Emergency Response Committee Chairperson of the Cho Kuk Innovation Party, strongly criticized the People Power Party, stating, "They are distorting the truth of the Jeju 4·3 Incident and insulting its victims."
During a party member meeting held at the Jeju Provincial Party headquarters that day, Chairperson Cho remarked, "The People Power Party applauds distorted content such as the film 'Founding War 2' and tries to disguise it as a 'diversity of perspectives.' This is an act of killing the 30,000 victims a second time and driving a stake into the hearts of the 100,000 bereaved families."
He continued, "The Cho Kuk Innovation Party will resolutely confront forces that insult the Jeju 4·3 Incident and reduce the People Power Party to 'zero.' We will promptly pass the amendment to the Jeju 4·3 Special Act proposed by Assemblyman Jeong Chun-saeng to punish the dissemination of false information and acts of defamation." He added, "We will strengthen the state's responsibility to establish a support system for bereaved families and ensure that Jeju's pain is not used as a tool for distortion or political strife."
Prior to the meeting, Chairperson Cho visited the Jeju 4·3 Peace Park to pay respects to the victims. He criticized, "Jang Dong-hyuk, the leader of the People Power Party, and Assemblyman Joo Jin-woo watched 'Founding War 2,' a film that glorifies those responsible for the massacre of civilians, and even made statements in praise of it. For the representative and members of the second-largest party in South Korea to defend such a film is a betrayal of democracy, human rights, and common sense." He then demanded, "Leader Jang Dong-hyuk must immediately apologize to the victims of the Jeju 4·3 Incident."
Meanwhile, after People Power Party figures including Leader Jang Dong-hyuk recently watched the independent film 'Founding War 2,' which deals with left-right conflict in the post-liberation period, local leaders such as Jeju Governor Oh Young-hun, Jeju Provincial Council Chairperson Lee Sang-bong, and Kim Chang-beom, President of the Jeju 4·3 Victims' Families Association, all issued statements condemning the move.
