Mokpo City in South Jeolla Province held a commemorative event honoring the dedication and contributions of local elders in celebration of the 29th Senior Citizens Day.
The city announced on the 17th that the “29th Senior Citizens Day Commemoration Ceremony” was held at the Culture and Arts Center on the 16th, organized by the Mokpo City branch of the Korean Senior Citizens Association. The event was attended by more than 700 people, including local elders and guests, who reflected on the importance of intergenerational harmony and respect.
Prior to the main ceremony, a pre-event performance featured a choir, Nanta, and Janggu drum performances, all prepared and performed by the elders themselves, receiving enthusiastic applause. Unlike previous years, where professional performance groups took the stage, this year’s program, led by the elders, embodied the spirit of “a day where elders are the main protagonists,” adding a moving touch to the event.
The main ceremony included an awards presentation for exemplary elders and contributors to senior welfare. During the commemorative address and congratulatory speeches, gratitude and respect were expressed for the hard work of the elders.
A city official stated, “We will continue to implement various welfare policies to ensure a healthy and happy later life for our elders,” adding, “We aim to further promote a culture of respect for the elderly and empathy between generations.”
