PROTIA Leads Popularization of Immune Management with 'IMSAFE Saliva,' the First Saliva-Based IgA Test Without Equipment

On October 17, domestic in vitro diagnostics specialist PROTIA announced the launch of 'IMSAFE Saliva,' a self-immune test kit capable of measuring immunoglobulin A (IgA) concentration using only saliva. The company stated that it has begun to popularize immune management products for general consumers by making them available through major online shopping platforms such as Naver Smart Store and Coupang.

'IMSAFE Saliva' is the world's first product that can measure IgA concentration using only saliva, without the need for specialized equipment. It differentiates itself from conventional blood-based tests by allowing individuals to easily check their immune status. With just a small amount of saliva (4 to 5 drops), results can be obtained in about 15 minutes, and its non-invasive method eliminates the need for blood sampling.

IgA is an antibody secreted by the mucous membranes of the nose, mouth, and intestines, serving as a primary defense factor that blocks external pathogens from entering the body. Low levels of IgA are known to increase the risk of recurrent infectious diseases, allergies, and autoimmune disorders. Recent studies have also highlighted its association with intestinal conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Previously, measuring IgA required a hospital visit for blood collection and analysis with specialized equipment. However, this new product allows users to conveniently check their immune balance at home using only saliva, making it easy to monitor immune changes caused by daily factors such as stress, lack of sleep, and dietary changes.

The product is available in two package options: single-use and five-use kits. It can be stored at room temperature, further enhancing user convenience.

A PROTIA representative stated, "IgA is closely related to gut health and serves as an important indicator for understanding everyday immune status changes. We expect that this product, which is easy for non-professionals to use, will help expand personal health management into a more routine part of daily life."

Meanwhile, the global personal healthcare market is estimated to be worth approximately 7 trillion won as of 2024, and is expected to continue growing due to population aging and rising demand for self-managed health solutions. Experts predict that non-invasive and contactless self-diagnosis solutions will become a major trend in the personalized healthcare market in the future.
