Kim Sea and Hwang Dayoung of Homyeong Elementary School
Crowned as "Reading Quiz Kings"
Spreading a Creative Reading Culture
On the afternoon of October 16, Yecheon County successfully held the "2025 Yecheon County Reading Quiz Festival" under the theme "Thinking Spark! Joy Burst!" at the main auditorium of Yecheon Elementary School.
Kim Hakdong, the governor of Yecheon County, is inspiring dreams in the youth, the future leaders, at the Yecheon Office of Education Reading Quiz Festival.
This event was supported by Yecheon County and organized by the Yecheon Office of Education, with the goal of spreading a reading culture among local youth and enhancing their critical thinking skills.
A total of 64 students-fifth and sixth graders from elementary schools and first-year middle school students in the area-participated in teams of two from each school, engaging in a spirited competition.
The quiz questions were based on five designated books, including literature, non-fiction, and classics, and featured a variety of formats to comprehensively assess not only memorization but also critical thinking and expressive abilities.
This year, in particular, all participants received the same book on-site and read it together in a "Shared Reading Event," which was well received for evolving the competition into a "festival of communication through books" rather than just a contest.
The highest honor of the competition, the "2025 Reading Quiz King," was awarded to Kim Sea and Hwang Dayoung, both fifth graders at Homyeong Elementary School.
Kim Hakdong, the governor of Yecheon County, stated, "I hope this festival has provided an opportunity for the youth, who are the leaders of the future, to think for themselves and nurture their dreams through books," adding, "We will continue to strengthen our support for the promotion of a reading culture and the development of local education, aiming to make Yecheon a premier city for education."
Through this reading quiz festival, the county once again highlighted the importance of "thoughtful reading" beyond simple learning. The experience of thinking through books and learning by communicating with friends is expected to empower Yecheon’s youth to open new doors to their future.
