On October 17, President Lee Jaemyung ordered the urgent removal of illegal recruitment advertisements targeting all of Southeast Asia.

Lee Kyuyeon, Chief of Public Relations and Communication at the Presidential Office, announced at a briefing held that afternoon at the Yongsan Presidential Office that President Lee had issued these instructions to the Korea Communications Commission, the Korea Communications Standards Commission, and the National Police Agency in connection with the situation in Cambodia.

Chief Lee explained, "The decision was made out of concern that, as crackdowns intensify in Cambodia, the destination of recruitment advertisements could shift to other Southeast Asian countries." He added, "These agencies will closely monitor websites where illegal advertisements are displayed and share the findings with portal site operators and others."

Previously, President Lee had instructed authorities to consider removal measures, such as utilizing the emergency review system, to block advertisements luring victims into Cambodian scam crimes.

Chief Lee also emphasized, "The government has urgently formed a joint response task force that includes relevant agencies," and added, "Today, we established a consultative body with the participation of Naver, Kakao, Google, and others, launching a full-fledged self-regulation review system."

He further stated, "Through these urgent removal measures, we will ensure that no well-intentioned citizens become victims."
