The Mokpo Coast Guard will issue a "caution" level coastal safety risk advisory for five days from October 18 to October 22 in response to ongoing bad weather, aiming to prevent maritime accidents. The advisory will cover eight cities and counties within its jurisdiction.
The affected areas include Mokpo City, and the counties of Muan, Hampyeong, Yeonggwang, Shinan, Jindo, Haenam, and Yeongam.
The coastal safety risk advisory system, established under the "Coastal Accident Safety Management Regulations," is designed to predict and notify the public of potential safety accidents in hazardous coastal areas, such as piers and designated danger zones, during specific periods of adverse weather or natural disasters, thereby helping to prevent accidents.
The coastal safety risk advisory is divided into three levels: "attention," "caution," and "alert." The "caution" level, which has been issued this time, is declared when there is a high risk of safety accidents or concern about the spread of damage.
During the advisory period, the Coast Guard plans to strengthen both sea and land patrols, focusing on dangerous coastal low-lying areas such as coastal waters, ports, and rocky shores. In addition, they will work closely with local governments and utilize police station electronic displays and public announcements to promote safety awareness and guidance, making every effort to prevent coastal safety accidents.
A Mokpo Coast Guard official stated, "During this period, we urge everyone to frequently check weather updates and refrain from maritime activities if worsening weather is expected."
