Establishing a Future-Oriented Online Education Environment
for the Stable Implementation of the High School Credit System
and Bridging Educational Gaps
High school students in the Busan area will now be able to conveniently take online courses for subjects that were previously difficult to offer at their schools due to low enrollment or the lack of assigned teachers.
This is expected to greatly contribute to the stable implementation of the high school credit system, which was fully launched this year.
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Kim Seokjun) will hold an opening ceremony for the Busan Online School at 10:30 a.m. on October 20 at the "Majoon Classroom" located on the 5th floor of the Busan SW·AI Education Hub Center in Deokcheon-dong, Buk-gu.
The ceremony will be attended by Superintendent Kim Seokjun, members of the Busan Metropolitan Council, and education officials. It will be conducted in a hybrid format, combining an offline on-site event with a live online broadcast.
The Busan Online School is a public special-purpose school established to support the operation of subjects with low student numbers or without assigned teachers. Since March, it has been offering online lectures to students enrolled in general high schools in Busan, including autonomous private high schools and special-purpose high schools.
Currently, for the 2025 academic year, 42 courses have been opened, with 231 students from 31 high schools participating. Interest continues to grow, with 619 students applying for 79 courses for the 2026 academic year.
In July, the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education completed state-of-the-art educational infrastructure, including an online studio, hybrid classrooms, learning support rooms, and computer rooms, establishing a top-level online learning environment.
Superintendent Kim Seokjun stated, "With the opening of the Busan Online School, we have overcome the physical limitations caused by regional educational disparities, and created a future-oriented educational environment where students can continue their learning." He added, "We will actively work to provide customized learning support for students and to bridge educational gaps between regions."
