Interview with Seong Hyupyo, Executive Director of POSCO DX Technology Research Institute
Development of "AI Engineer Agent" through Collaboration with AWS
"I believe that Amazon Web Services (AWS) stands out among global cloud platform companies because of its specialized experience and references in the manufacturing sector."
On October 15 at The Westin Seoul Parnas in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, Seong Hyupyo, Executive Director of POSCO DX Technology Research Institute, explained why the company chose to collaborate with AWS during the development of agentic artificial intelligence (AI).

POSCO DX recently developed an agentic AI called the "AI Engineer Agent" and has begun applying it to automated work processes. Agentic AI refers to AI that not only makes autonomous decisions but also carries out actual tasks. Since around August, the company has been testing the AI Engineer Agent, and it has now reached a level where the AI can analyze data and even generate blueprints. POSCO DX aims to apply this agent to about 20% of operational technology (OT) work.
POSCO DX developed the AI Engineer Agent through collaboration with AWS, utilizing platforms such as AWS Bedrock during the development process. Bedrock is a service that allows users to access multiple AI foundation models through a single application programming interface (API). This enables easy development of AI services even without equipment such as graphics processing units (GPUs) for AI development.
The introduction of this agentic AI into work processes produced immediate results. Seong explained, "By leveraging AI for automation, productivity can be increased in both manufacturing and design," adding, "Productivity can be improved by about 30% compared to manual work."
Seong also noted that the adoption of agentic AI will change the roles of developers. He predicted, "Tasks that follow standardized rules will be handled by AI," and "The role of software engineers will be to identify tasks that utilize AI, such as advancing and refining systems."
Meanwhile, POSCO DX participated as a presenter at the "AI x Industry Week 2025" hosted by AWS from October 14 to 16, sharing its development cases of applying AI in industry.
