The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education's future education initiatives have been featured in the UNESCO report "Reimagining our futures together: A new social contract for education."
The report comprehensively covers the operation and outcomes of the "2024 UNESCO International Forum on the Future of Education," which was co-hosted last December by the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, UNESCO, the Ministry of Education, and the Korean National Commission for UNESCO. It also addresses key directions for educational transformation.
In particular, the report directly quotes Superintendent Lim Taehee’s remarks from the special Gyeonggi Education session: "Gyeonggi Education is a microcosm that encompasses all cases of Korean education, and when Gyeonggi Education changes, the education of the Republic of Korea changes." The report highlights the philosophy and cases of educational transformation in Gyeonggi Future Education in detail.
Following the UNESCO International Forum, the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education established an International Cooperation Team in March this year to respond to the growing global interest in Gyeonggi Future Education.
Under the vision of "Gyeonggi Future Education to the World, Global Citizens to Gyeonggi," the office is actively promoting a variety of international exchange and cooperation initiatives that connect schools, local communities, and the international community.
To this end, the office is moving beyond simple visits or one-off events, building practical partnerships tailored to the unique characteristics of each region, and developing a new model of international exchange and cooperation as a key educational activity that fosters the growth of not only students but the entire educational community.
Superintendent Lim Taehee stated, "The fact that Gyeonggi Future Education has been introduced as a major case in the official report of the UNESCO International Forum is a recognition of the collective efforts of the entire Gyeonggi education community." He added, "We will continue to actively support all students in Gyeonggi so that they can develop global competencies and a sense of peace, and grow as members of a sustainable global community."
Meanwhile, to build on the achievements of the UNESCO International Forum and to share the ever-evolving Gyeonggi Future Education, the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education will host the "2025 Gyeonggi Future Education International Forum" on December 9, 2025.
Under the theme "Hacking the Future of the Classroom," this forum will feature a series of lectures by domestic and international future education experts, a special talk session with Superintendent Lim Taehee, hands-on workshops on Gyeonggi Future Education topics such as the Gyeonggi Online School and High Learning, and more.
