On October 16, the Incheon city government announced that it will pursue ISO 45001 certification for facilities subject to major civil disaster prevention, aiming to strengthen systematic safety and health management.
ISO 45001 is an international standard established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for occupational health and safety management. It serves as a benchmark to assess whether an organization has established systematic management methods necessary to create a safe and healthy working environment and to prevent industrial accidents and diseases.
The city is currently undergoing consulting and audit procedures with the goal of obtaining certification by December 2025. The certification process includes a document adequacy review, an on-site audit, and corrective actions for any nonconformities, followed by a final review for confirmation.
Incheon previously acquired ISO 45001 certification for the major industrial accident sector in November 2023. Through this new certification, the city plans to systematically manage risk factors related to major civil disasters, establish a framework for fulfilling safety and health obligations, and enhance safety awareness throughout the organization.
Yoon Baekjin, Director of the Incheon City Citizens' Safety Headquarters, stated, "The pursuit of ISO 45001 certification for the prevention of major civil disasters will serve as an opportunity to elevate the city's safety and health management system to the next level," adding, "We will continue building a city where citizens can live with peace of mind."
