Video Playback Blocked on Both App and PC Web
Similar Issues Reported in the United States and Europe
It has been confirmed that access to YouTube and YouTube Music was unstable for a period on the morning of October 16, 2025.
According to the IT industry on October 16, starting around 8:00 a.m., some users in South Korea experienced disruptions in YouTube video playback and YouTube Music streaming.
This access issue occurred across both mobile applications and PC webpages. When users clicked on YouTube videos, an error message appeared and the videos did not play. Similarly, YouTube Music tracks did not play, displaying an error notification.
As soon as the access issue emerged, Google Korea announced through its official blog, "Around 8:00 a.m. on the 16th, some users experienced errors preventing YouTube and YouTube Music from functioning normally. We will inform you as soon as the issue is resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience."
However, as of approximately 9:10 a.m. on the same day, access to YouTube and YouTube Music, as well as video and music playback, had returned to normal.
This error reportedly occurred not only in South Korea but also overseas, raising the possibility that it was a global issue. In fact, several foreign media outlets also reported on YouTube's access problems.
The New Zealand Herald reported, "YouTube appears to be displaying error messages and not functioning when users click on videos. Since midnight, there have been more than 1,600 related reports in New Zealand, and this number continues to rise. This phenomenon is also occurring in the United States, Turkey, and throughout Europe."
