Urging Protection of Public Officials' Rights
and Addressing the Grief of Yangpyeong County
On the afternoon of October 15, Jeon Jinseon, the governor of Yangpyeong County, made an unannounced visit to the office of Special Prosecutor Min Junggi, located in Gwanghwamun, Seoul.
This visit was reportedly made to convey Yangpyeong County's position regarding the death of a county government official, and to directly propose measures for protecting the rights of public officials and stabilizing the local community.
Previously, on October 14, Governor Jeon had held a joint press conference with the Yangpyeong County labor union, where he stated, "We cannot ignore the pain of the bereaved families and county residents who have been deeply wounded by this incident," and pledged to establish practical measures to protect the honor and rights of Yangpyeong County officials during the special prosecutor's investigation.
During the meeting, Governor Jeon addressed the suspension of the Seoul-Yangpyeong Expressway construction, stating, "Yangpyeong residents have endured 50 years of regulations and sacrifices without compensation. Please ensure that this incident does not escalate further into political conflict, causing additional harm to our residents," he strongly urged.
This visit took place shortly after the recent death of a county official, with Governor Jeon promptly reaching out to the special prosecutor's team. It was reported that the special prosecutor's office responded by stating it would actively reflect Yangpyeong County's opinions and suggestions in the upcoming investigation.
