The museum is located on the second floor of the Gwangmyeong Cultural Center at 42 Cheolmangsan-ro, Haan-dong. It houses and displays a total of over 1,000 artifacts, including 700 historical documents and 300 folk items donated or entrusted by citizens.

The museum features a permanent exhibition hall displaying around 40 artifacts, a visible storage area where visitors can view items not on display in the exhibition hall, and an immersive video room introducing Gwangmyeong's prominent historical figures.

During the opening ceremony, an academic forum was held under the theme "Gwangmyeong, Embracing History and Opening the Future." The forum discussed strategies for discovering cultural heritage and content centered on Gwangmyeong's notable historical figures such as Jeong Won-yong, Yi Sun-sin of Muui-gong, and Yi Won-ik of Ori, as well as the direction for establishing the Gwangmyeong History and Culture Museum and ways for public museums and local communities to coexist and thrive together.

Park Seungwon, Mayor of Gwangmyeong, stated, "With the opening of the museum, I hope that the precious history and cultural heritage of Gwangmyeong City will be systematically preserved and its value passed on to future generations. The Gwangmyeong History Museum, which connects the past and present, will serve as a starting point for Gwangmyeong City to become a cultural city."

The museum is open on weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Admission is free. It is closed on weekends and public holidays. Group visits can be reserved in advance through the Gwangmyeong Cultural Center, and visitors can apply for guided tours by cultural tourism interpreters for a more in-depth exhibition experience.
