The Sangmyeon Basic Living Base Development Project was selected as a Rural Agreement Project site through a public contest by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs last year. A total of 6 billion won (4 billion won for the first phase and 2 billion won for the second phase) will be invested over five years from 2025 to 2029.
More than 30 people attended the briefing session, including Gapyeong County officials, county council members, representatives from Korea Rural Community Corporation, the project contractor, heads of local institutions and organizations in Sangmyeon, and residents. The participants listened to an overview of the project and its direction from the contractor and discussed development plans that reflect the region's characteristics and residents' needs.
The main components include the construction of the Sangmyeon Coexistence Culture Center (tentative name), which will serve as a hub for cultural and welfare services in Sangmyeon, as well as community revitalization projects and initiatives to strengthen local capacity by connecting the hub area with surrounding villages. The goal is to improve access to cultural and welfare services and to strengthen the functions of the local community.
A Gapyeong County official stated, "This kickoff meeting for the Sangmyeon Basic Living Base Development Project is the first step in sharing the project's basic plan with residents and concretizing the region's future vision together. Moving forward, we will do our best to actively incorporate on-site feedback through the resident committee so that this project can become a truly practical living base facility for the Sangmyeon area."
