Water Opens EV Charging Stations at Namhansanseong, Expanding Infrastructure to Tourist Destinations

New Charging Stations Established at Five Major Parking Lots in Namhansanseong Provincial Park

Water, the electric vehicle rapid charging network, announced on October 15 that it has newly established and officially begun operating EV charging stations at five major parking lots in Namhansanseong Provincial Park, a leading tourist destination in the Seoul metropolitan area.

The newly launched charging stations include: ▲South Gate Parking Lot (six 200kW rapid chargers), ▲Rotary Parking Lot (four 200kW rapid chargers), ▲Geombok-ri Parking Lot (two 7kW slow chargers), ▲Buldang-ri Parking Lot (one 7kW slow charger), and ▲Downbound Parking Lot (one 7kW slow charger), totaling five locations. In total, 14 new chargers-10 rapid and four slow-have been installed. As a result, electric vehicle users visiting Namhansanseong can now explore the fortress area at leisure without worrying about charging, as charging stations are available at key access parking lots.

Since being designated a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in 2014, Namhansanseong has become a popular year-round destination for Seoul metropolitan area residents, renowned for walking and trekking. In particular, during the peak of autumn foliage, the fortress trails and royal palace area are crowded with tourists, with more than 10,000 visitors on average each weekend. In response to this seasonal tourism demand, Water has built charging infrastructure at the main entrances and parking lots of Namhansanseong, transforming it into an eco-friendly mobility hub that offers a seamless charging experience even at tourist sites.

The opening of the Namhansanseong charging stations is part of Water's strategy to expand its charging network at tourist destinations. In the Seoul metropolitan area, Water has installed 26 rapid chargers at four locations in Ilsan Lake Park, integrating charging with leisure spaces. Along the East Coast of Gangwon Province, drive-through charging stations have been set up near Yangyang and Hajodae to enhance both resort accessibility and charging convenience. In Jeju, Water is experimenting with a charging model that covers travel routes by establishing rapid charging hubs at 10 locations.

Yoo Daewon, head of the Electric Vehicle Charging Business Division (Water) at Bright Energy Partners, said, "Water is now entering a new phase, expanding from highways and cities to nature and culture. Electric vehicle charging is not just about supplying energy-it is about designing the rhythm and experience of mobility. Water is creating a flow where charging becomes a natural part of everyday life."
