By using the eco-friendly ST1 vehicle to collect recyclables, it is expected that air pollution caused by vehicle emissions and noise will be reduced, leading to higher residential satisfaction and fewer civil complaints, among other multifaceted benefits.
In addition, the low-floor platform, which is a key advantage of the ST1, is expected to improve the working environment for workers who frequently get on and off the vehicle. The introduction of the smart collection solution is also anticipated to enhance the operational efficiency of the recycling waste management business.
Utilizing the smart collection solution enables workers to pinpoint the exact locations of recycling collection points through a dedicated navigation system, allowing for quick operations. Optimized routes will improve work efficiency, protect workers’ safety and health, and reduce charging costs.
Hyundai Motor Company plans to develop a purpose-built vehicle (PBV) dedicated to smart recycling collection based on the ST1 and a smart collection solution by the end of this year, and to operate the pilot project for approximately six months starting as early as the first quarter of next year. The pilot area will be in Seongbuk District, focusing on densely populated residential and commercial zones with many hills and alleys that are difficult to access with conventional large trucks. A total of two ST1 vehicles will be deployed.
The ST1, launched by Hyundai Motor Company last year, is equipped with a 76.1kWh battery, offering a driving range of 317 kilometers per charge for the cargo version and 298 kilometers for the refrigerated cargo version. It features an ultra-fast 350kW charging system that allows the battery to be charged from 10% to 80% in just 20 minutes. The vehicle is also equipped with an infotainment system based on the Android operating system (OS), enabling the use of various applications and providing scalability for customized work environments.
A Hyundai Motor Company representative stated, "We expect this initiative to not only improve residents' satisfaction by protecting the residential environment from air pollution and noise, but also to contribute to carbon neutrality. We will continue to strive to provide not only vehicles dedicated to smart recycling collection, but also a wide range of customized business solutions for our customers."
