GLP-1 is a hormone secreted from the intestines after meals, involved in blood sugar regulation and appetite suppression. Since its discovery in the 1980s, it has marked a major turning point in metabolic disease research and has recently emerged as a key substance in the development of obesity and diabetes treatments.

Experts from four countries will participate in this symposium to discuss the scientific discovery and therapeutic applications of GLP-1, as well as its social and economic impact. In addition, Korean experts from academia, industry, government, and the media will join to discuss the changes brought about by GLP-1 class drugs and policy responses.

President Chung Jin-ho stated, "GLP-1 treatments are a representative example of how fundamental scientific discoveries can lead to improvements in human health and social value." He added, "I hope this symposium will help the public understand the significance of scientific achievements and provide an opportunity for researchers in the field to engage in broad exchange."
