Heads of 23 Cities and Counties Attend
Seeking Strategies for Joint Development
Goseong County in South Gyeongsang Province held the 32nd Regular Meeting of the Gaya Cultural Area Regional Development Mayors and County Governors Council at the Goseong County Youth Hostel, where participants discussed cooperation measures for the joint development of the Gaya cultural area.
The Gaya Cultural Area Regional Development Mayors and County Governors Council was established in February 2005 to promote mutual regional development based on the historical and cultural assets of the Gaya cultural area. The council currently consists of 23 cities and counties across five metropolitan governments: South Gyeongsang, North Gyeongsang, Daegu, North Jeolla, and South Jeolla.
The meeting, held on the 23rd, was attended by over 100 people, including Lee Sanggeun, the governor of Goseong County, who hosted the event, Cho Geunje, the governor of Haman County and current chairman of the council, as well as the heads and relevant officials of the 23 member cities and counties.
During the meeting, five agenda items were reviewed: selection of the host location for the first half of 2026 regular meeting, production of an educational and promotional animation about the Gaya cultural area, metropolitan advertising to promote the Gaya cultural area, an overseas training program for the council, and a policy proposal to ease regulations on the size of public housing.
Governor Lee Sanggeun stated, "Now that the value of the Gaya cultural area is being re-examined, it is the right time for each local government to work closely together to preserve and utilize Gaya culture and drive regional development. Taking this meeting as an opportunity, our county will also strive to continue the brilliant history and culture of Gaya and help the council achieve tangible results."
