Free Access to Public Facilities
and Discount Events with Private Businesses
Yeosu City in South Jeolla Province (Mayor Chung Kimyung) will hold the '2025 Yeosu Citizens' Day' commemorative event over two days, from the 17th to the 18th, at the Jinnam Stadium area.
This year, Yeosu Citizens' Day will be transformed from a simple commemorative event into a 'festival-style Citizens' Day' where residents can directly experience and participate in the festivities.
The city has scheduled the event for Friday and Saturday to allow office workers and families to participate together. In addition, public parking lots and sports facilities will be open free of charge, and citizens can enjoy discount events at major local tourist attractions and in partnership with private businesses.
The event will kick off with a commemorative ceremony at 10:00 a.m. on the 17th at Jinnam Stadium. The program will begin with a joint performance by the Municipal Gugak Orchestra, the Municipal Choir, and the Children's Choir, followed by the entrance of flag bearers and representatives from each district, the reading of the Citizens' Charter, the presentation of the Yeosu Citizens' Award and Sports Award, an oath by the athletes' representative, and the screening of a congratulatory video.
This year, the Yeosu Citizens' Award will be presented to Han Okcheon, Chair of the Yeocheon-dong Community Social Security Council; Kim Youngtae, CEO of Woojoo General Construction Co., Ltd.; and Myung Kyungshik, President of the Yeosu Sports Association. The Yeosu Sports Award will go to Park Gilcheol, Executive Vice President of the Jeonnam Yacht Association. After the ceremony, a celebratory performance by guest singer Kim Dahyun and a prize drawing will further enliven the atmosphere.
The 27th Yeosu Citizens' Sports Festival, held over two days, will feature 15 events. At Marine Park and Jinnam Sports Park, a variety of citizen-participation cultural events will also take place, including an inter-district singing contest and traditional folk game competitions.
Notably, this year's event marks the first Citizens' Day held over Friday and Saturday and with free access to public facilities, following a revision of the relevant ordinance. This institutional foundation, established by Yeosu City to enhance citizen convenience and participation, is highly significant. The city plans to use this event as an opportunity to unite citizens' capabilities and passion ahead of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo.
A city official stated, "This year's Yeosu Citizens' Day will be a genuine festival where citizens can participate and enjoy, rather than a mere formal event," adding, "We hope that, ahead of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo, this will be a time for all citizens to come together and boost their pride in Yeosu."
