It was belatedly confirmed that a report had been filed in Yeosu, South Jeolla Province, stating that a man in his 30s who had said he was heading to Cambodia for employment has gone missing.
According to the South Jeolla Provincial Police Agency on October 14, a report was filed with the Yeosu Police Station in June, stating that a family member who had gone to Cambodia could not be reached.
Mr. A (38), who left for Thailand in December last year, had been in occasional contact with his family. In May of this year, he informed them that he was going to Cambodia to work after meeting an acquaintance. After this message, all contact with Mr. A was lost, prompting his family to report the situation to the police.
The police requested assistance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to confirm the whereabouts of the overseas national, but it is reported that his location has not yet been identified.
In Gwangju as well, since last year, there have been three reports of family members who left for Cambodia and Thailand and have since gone missing. The police are currently working to determine their whereabouts and are also investigating any possible links to criminal activity.
